When to Buy From a Puppy Mill

Puppy mills are a facility that gets protested about by many dog lovers. Puppy mills are large commercial dog breeding places. According to animal activists, these facilities operate under sub-standards that are not perpetually healthy for dogs. Puppy mills often work with a profit base.

Dogs from puppy mills are often traumatized and sad due to the bad experiences they have at puppy mills. The common critiques of puppy mills are that they are most often run at old run down buildings or partially demolished or abandoned buildings in which basic facilities such as electricity and water is scarce. Another issue is that most animals in puppy mills are under fed or not properly nourished because the purpose for which they are retained is to sell them off. Some puppy mills are not registered places for holding and breeding puppies and these places most often neglect puppy vaccinations and other medical needs. Deriving by the experiences they go through at puppy mills, by the time you purchase a puppy from a place like this, the puppy may alsready be psychologically damaged.

Many dog families are kept together until puppies are sold out to people. At that point the dogs may be affected psychologically in to a condition something like separation anxiety. Once you bring these puppies home, they may not always adjust to the new environment or become friendly or active with family members.

So if you are getting a puppy from a puppy mill, it is advisable that you purchase them right after (few days down the line) their birth. You should also make sure that the puppy does not have skin rashes and does not suffer from any respiratory disease as these conditions are common among puppies born at puppy mills.

Unless you know a trust worthy dog breeder, there’s little chance of you getting hold of a puppy to be purchased if it weren’t for puppy mills. Additionally, other dog owners will have to give the consent to breed their dogs and then give away the puppies for one to be able to own a new puppy. So it is important to know that there are practical issues when it comes to getting a puppy from another means and that there are risks associated with getting a dog from puppy mills.
