The Animal Airline
You would of never of guessed it but the day has come where you are finally witness to one of the most bizarre inventions of our time. Pet Airways specialise in transportation for pets. By the end of the year the business wants to be recognised on a world wide scale.
This is not going to be easy but I strongly think it is possible. Of course, I might be absolutely crazy but they seem to be attacking a real niche market with this business idea.
Experts are worried that putting animals under that kind of strain will cause an increase heart disorders. Pet airways have already announced that there will be an on board animal cardiology vet to take care of any flight trouble. Animals health is very changable and it is important to consider every avenue when taking their safety into consideration.
Currently Pet Airways only serves New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver and LA. The price for one ticket is only £91 which is a very competitive rate to beat by any other American airline.
Pet Airways offers a very different service than anything else you have seen before. Dogs and cats will fly in the main cabin of a freight plane that has been re-arranged and lined with carriers in place of seats. The animals, up to 50 at a time will be escorted to the plane by attendants who will check them every 15 minutes during the flight to make sure they are ok. Local animal hospitals from around the area have been in support over the idea to take animals in the sky by plane and think it is a great idea.
The company, which will begin with one flight in each of its five cities, might add more flights and cities. In the next three years, Binder (The owner) hopes the schedule will expand to 25 destinations.

Just what to do you have to do to be a veterinary surgeon?
What does the job of being a vet involve? Obviously you treat injured animals, but is there is more to it than that?
It can take just as long to become a veterinary surgeon as it can to become a docotor, as after school you need to attend four years of college and then four years of veterinary school to begin with. Getting a placement at an animal hospital can help with credit, but it wont make your time any shorter actually in college. Competiton will be tough to get into a veterinary college, as there are only 28. Other than the diseases you will be learning about all the different animals you may be treating during your career. Where a human doctor will only have to learn about human anatomy, a vet has to know about different spieces -cats, rats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and others. Thats before youve even thought about considering whether to make one animal spieces a priority. Quite similar to the bar exam in law is the final exam in veterinary school, as without it you legally cant treat animals. Choose with some thought where you take your state exam, as it doesnt allow you to also practice your veterinary skills in the other states.
Vets also have to keep as up to date as they possibly can on all the new methods and techinques to best serve their patients. What may surpise people is that vets also have to take an oath, exactly like doctors, pledging to do their best to help all animals. The worst thing about being a vet is putting down animals that you cant help -its hard to do. If you cant get to grips with that fact, being a vet isnt the career move for you.
Think you’ve now found your ideal job? Good luck on the road to becoming the best vet that you can be.

Is there a limit to how much to spend on veterinary care?
My best friend’s cat passed away last week. I’m sure I don’t need to say she was more than a little distraught, but then he wasn’t just a cat he was family. He was her companion, her confidant and her friend. She only found out he was ill about a month ago when she took him to the vets in Sussex and they found a lump in his stomach, she would have done anything and paid any amount of money to save him but unfortunately they had found it too late.
In the end the decision was out of my friend’s control, but for a lot of people when their pets fall ill or are injured they are faced with a horrible choice. Obviously there is no NHS for pets, and for those without pet insurance it’s an extremely costly business (my friend paid almost £90 for a blood test that didn’t even help to identify the problem). Of course most people would do anything to help their pets and money isn’t an issue when it comes to helping such an important member of the family.
And for those who can afford it there is no end of veterinary help available, from basic medicines and physiotherapy for pets to specific animal cardiology and ophthalmology facilities. If it’s possible for the illness to be treated it will be treated, and there is every chance that the pet will make a full recovery. But what about when a pet is suddenly injured or taken ill and their owner can’t afford to foot the (often huge) bill? It’s hardly fair that the life of one animal should take priority over another simply because of the size of their owners’ wallets.
One young cat owner from Brighton took a unique approach to tackling this problem when his cat Mumble was seriously hurt in the street and needed urgent treatment to survive. Rory O’Connor had no pet insurance, and Mumble’s treatment at a veterinary hospital in Sussex was estimated at around £1000, much more than he could afford, but he couldn’t bear to just watch her suffer. So as what he called a ‘last ditch effort’ Rory started a group on Facebook, inviting all his friends to spread the word about Mumble’s plight and asking everyone to make small donations of £1. At first he thought he’d have no chance but his desperate plea seemed to touch the hearts of thousands of facebook users. People on his friends list told all their friends about it, and within a short couple of weeks he had raised enough money to pay the bill for Mumble’s treatment in full. She made a full and speedy recovery, all thanks to the overwhelming support of friends and the power of social networking!

Cat, Dog or Spider? Which pet would you prefer
So you want to buy a pet, but still unsure what to get -here some help on that.
- Cats. Cats dont need to be taken out for walks, are well groomed and quiet animals (except when they want feeding). Their nocturnal animals so they only really come to life at night, going out to bring you back live mice as a present bless ‘em. Cats will cost alittle less than a dog because cats dont require the training that a dog has, but thats only alittle less.
- Dogs. Do they deserve the title ‘mans best friend’? A dog requires being taken for a walk every day, if not every other day, which can be great exercise for both dog and owner. Dogs are going to need some training, but are very loyal animals to their owners (or their pet!!).
- Rodents. Hamsters, Rats, Gerbils and Mice. These guys usually live for about a year and a half, though some have gone on for longer. the right sized cage is important -rats are the bigger rodent and mice may escape through bigger holes in the bars. They’ll need a wheel for exercise, but replace it when it starts squeaking so you get some sleep at night.
- Guinea pigs and Rabbits. Be prepared to chase them around the garden to get them back in their hutch, they can move quicker than you think. Either animal will require a hutch to stay in, plus a run for them to enjoy in the summer, but not escaping from the garden. Give them fresh lettuce/ carrots to go with their feed, and you must move their hutches into somewhere warm when winter sets in.
- Snakes. A snake can be very costly given the accommodation they need, they equipment to control the temperature and mice for them to eat. The cost of the snake is going to depend on the size of the snake.
- Spiders. You’ll need bugs for them to eat, a small container and a wife who wont freak out if they escape.
